What can you do in Savoie if you don’t ski?

Four day-out ideas combining heritage, villages and local flavours.

Choose the setting for your day

Discover Savoie through its villages, museums and the people who live here. Whether you don’t ski, your group has different interests or you fancy a cultural break, choose an area that suits where you’re staying. Pick one or two visits and leave time for walks, meals and travel.

Choose the setting for your day

01 Around Chambéry · culture and a wine cellar

Chambéry, then the vineyards of Chignin

Start in the old town’s narrow streets and choose an indoor visit: the Musée Savoisien to learn about the region, or the Château des Ducs de Savoie for its history. If you wish, continue to Chignin to meet a winegrower.

Possible stops

  1. Chambéry old town
  2. Musée Savoisien or Château des Ducs de Savoie
  3. A Chignin wine cellar, at a confirmed time
Before you choose your times

The museum and château offer different experiences: check accessible areas and visit arrangements. For an organised tasting in English at the Berthollier estate, ask for confirmation when booking. A cellar tasting does not automatically include a vineyard visit.

02 Around Lac du Bourget · abbey and vineyards

Hautecombe and the slopes of Jongieux

Discover Hautecombe Abbey and the lake scenery, then consider meeting a producer at a Jongieux wine cellar. The architecture and vine-covered slopes make a relaxed alternative for a day away from the pistes.

Possible stops

  1. Hautecombe Abbey, according to available visits
  2. Lac du Bourget scenery
  3. A Jongieux estate, after agreeing your visit
Before you choose your times

The church audio tour and other parts of the abbey may have different access arrangements. Check with Hautecombe, then book your winery appointment before fixing the transfers. A lakeside restaurant can replace the tasting if it suits your group better.

03 Albertville and Beaufort · village and cheese

Conflans and the flavours of the Beaufortain

The streets of Conflans offer another view of Albertville. You could then discover Beaufort cheese at the dairy cooperative and take time to explore the village. Depending on your starting point, you can focus the day on Albertville or Beaufort.

Possible stops

  1. Medieval Conflans
  2. Beaufortain dairy cooperative
  3. Beaufort village, depending on your plans
Before you choose your times

Check the cooperative’s visitor route and when production can be seen. Roselend is another idea in the warmer months if the road is open; it should not be treated as an automatic winter stop.

04 Belleville valley · a break from skiing

Saint-Martin, Baroque heritage and a special meal

For a day close to the Belleville resorts, stay in the valley: a walk around Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, a look at Baroque heritage when a visit is available, then, if you wish, a booked meal in Saint-Marcel.

Possible stops

  1. Saint-Martin-de-Belleville village
  2. Baroque heritage: check visits with FACIM
  3. Saint-Marcel for a restaurant reservation
Before you choose your times

The Chemins du Baroque cover several sites and visits, each with its own access arrangements. Confirm the exact place and time. For a restaurant evening, discuss the return pick-up time with Martial when you enquire.

How do you turn an idea into a journey?

  1. Choose an area

Give your accommodation address and the places you would like to visit. Journeys need to fit the times actually available, both outward and back.

  2. Confirm your visits

Book the restaurant, cellar or cultural visit separately. Include any known start and finish times in your transport enquiry.

  3. Describe your group

Up to 7 passengers, including children. Mention luggage and any particular needs that require confirmation. Martial speaks French and a little English; a written message helps prepare the details.

What if your plans change?

Is this suitable for a rainy day?

Chambéry offers indoor visits, and some estates welcome visitors in their cellars. Still leave time between stops and check every opening: an indoor activity is not necessarily available on your chosen day.

Can we leave directly from our hotel or chalet?

Give the exact address, date and intended stops. Martial reviews the request and confirms possible journeys, prices and times. The return address and access arrangements at your accommodation are helpful too.

Can we choose just one stop?

Yes. These ideas help you build your own day. You can request only a return journey to a museum, restaurant or estate, without following the whole itinerary.

Your journey starts with a conversation

Your next journey?
Let’s plan it with Martial.

A train station, an airport, a ski resort, an appointment. Tell us where your journey starts and we’ll plan the next part together.
